When my daughter and I moved from NYC to Austin, we didn't know anyone, and it was in the middle of the school year. I knew she had to start preschool soon....enter Susanne Crawford! My daughter was in her class for three years.
Susanne was an amazing teacher. She not only taught my daughter to read fluently in a couple of short months, but when my daughter expressed interest in reading at a more advanced level, Susanne ordered more books, to accommodate my child's curiosity and love of reading, without hesitation. Susanne intuitively knows and anticipates the learning needs and styles of each of her students. My daughter, to this day, remembers Susanne as her best teacher. When I am in a tricky situation with my daughter, I sometimes ask myself "what would Susanne do in this situation?" She is truly gifted with children and loves her students, and it shows.

Miss Susanne taught my daughter at Montessori school when she was very young. Annie was shy and quiet and didn't always like to participate in activities with the other children. Susanne's always bright smile, caring attention, and understanding allowed Annie to feel at ease and to get so much more out of her school day. Susanne is one of those few people you meet and feel instantly at ease with. She's a gifted teacher and a beautiful person.

Anyone who knows Susanne will attest to her skills as an educator. She possesses a unique talent to meet each child where they are and gently guide them into becoming their best selves. She is also an extremely empathetic and caring person who has not only been an integral part of my children's lives, she has helped me to become a better mother.
I remember the first few weeks of school, one of my daughters sat in a chair in the center of the room and did not participate in any activities. I was concerned, but Susanne explained that she was a cautious/observant learner and needed time and patience to internalize her new surroundings. Every day, Susanne set out the chair and invited my daughter to sit. One day she quietly slid out of the chair and onto the floor with the other children at circle, her little voice singing along to the songs she had been listening to for days.
My other daughter was the exact opposite, demanding lots of attention. Susanne spent the first two weeks with my child in her lap, holding her hand, or carrying her everywhere she went. I learned that because her Love Language is physical touch, my daughter needed to feel safe and connected before she could take on the task of learning. Eventually, she became one of the most social children in the class, surrounded by friends and playmates all the time!
The next four years I witnessed my children develop into strong, brave, communicative girls under Susanne's tutelage. They were taught the importance of being cooperative citizens, kind friends, and curious learners. They loved school and they loved learning!
My daughters entered first grade at the top of their class and have consistently excelled in all studies and extracurricular activities. They are confident young leaders and I credit Susanne for helping them develop positive associations around new knowledge, community involvement, and social interactions.
We feel as if she is a part of our family and could not be more grateful for the early educational and emotional foundation she provided to myself and my girls.
